About Fafa's Keramik
My journey began in Finland, a land of mysterious forests, more lakes that anyone can count and beautiful rugged countrysides. Art, craft and design are a natural part of our identity. Colour, shape and function is integrated into every part of life and informs us of who we are as people.
I grew up in Helsinki, surrounded by the sea and forests. Patterns, colour and texture were all important elements to our art education. Those early lessons are reflected in the ceramics that I now create.
I trained at the Aylesford School of Ceramics under the training of Master Potters Mark 'Billy' Byles and Alan Parris. Trained as production potters, they have been producing fine studio pottery together for over thirty years. They encourage experimentation and adventure in the creative process, as you never know until you have tried something.
The name Fafa comes from Swedish where the paternal grandfather is called farsfar, or fafa. Soon after my first grandchild was born I decided that would be a great name for a ceramics creator.
I am an Associate Member of the Craft Potters Association and a member of Kent Potters Association
